PCN Programs Overview

Project Connect Nashville works to alleviate poverty through Christ-centered community, educational, and vocational resources. Our programs are designed to both meet immediate need and to lead people toward long-term hope, stability, and change. Our 1st and 2nd year programs include educational opportunities in workforce development, finances, trauma healing, and more. We walk closely alongside individuals through these two year-long programs to meet physical needs, teach, encourage, problem-solve and help them discover who God has made them to be and how He is at work in our lives and in the world. PCN’s programs are also designed to integrate the church – the people of God – into the work, and so volunteers are deeply involved by facilitating classes, building hopeful relationships, providing meals, and much more.

While our year-long programs are comprehensive, we welcome individuals to come try a class or to inquire about our services regardless of long-term enrollment. Below are explanations of the core classes that we offer and a list of other services that students can access.

First Year Classes

The first year of our programming focuses on hope and stability and includes required connection management, goal-setting, community engagement, and the following classes:

Work Life – a workforce development class that examines who God has made us to be, and how we have unique gifts and skills to offer to the world. The class culminates in resume-building, mock interviews, and assistance with job-placement.

Faith & Finances – a class about financial stewardship and money as a tool in the greater story of God’s Kingdom in the world. Participants track spending, build budgets, learn about debt and saving, and more.

Trauma Healing – an important class (really, more of a group) that addresses hard questions around naming, understanding, and processing pain and suffering – all in light of God’s design, His care for the broken-hearted, and His healing power.

Story of God – a class that focuses on the entire narrative arc of scripture. Participants discuss major Biblical concepts and connect their own stories to the grand story that weaves in and through our lives.

Participants who are enrolled in class and complete all above requirements are eligible for monthly rent reduction. Classes are also free to the community and may be available to any who wish to attend. The classes are taught by certified and trained facilitators who volunteer their time with PCN, and we also invite volunteers to join the classes as allies. Allies take the class alongside program participants to learn, process the material together, and be a friend to the participants.

Second Year Classes

During an individual’s second year of programming, goal-setting, rent reduction, and connection management continue in a decreased capacity from the first year. The focus of this year is growth in the workplace, greater financial stability, healthy family life, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and how to share hope and stability with others.

Untangling Relationships – a Christian perspective on codependency helps identify its painful affects, which can be defined as the compulsion to help everyone and fix everything.

New Hope – through scriptural storytelling, participants learn about how suffering, when brought and surrendered to God, can be used for our healing and for the good of many people. The class also includes a focus on going out and sharing the stories and healing with others.

Boundaries – a class about healthy relationships and when, where, and how to draw boundaries based on the best-selling book Boundaries.

Your Story Matters – a writing class that encourages students to write and share their stories as a way of processing life, knowing ourselves, and sharing our gifts with others.

Classes are free to the community and may be available to any who wish to attend. The classes are taught by certified and trained facilitators who volunteer their time with PCN, and we also invite volunteers to join the classes as allies. Allies take the class alongside program participants to learn, process the material together, and be a friend to the participants.
